I’m expanding my thesis.
Three days ago, I put out the 4th and final Hello Whirled album of 2020, Hole of Infinity. As I was preparing for its release leading up to it, it occurred to me that it would be the 98th release on the Hello Whirled Bandcamp page.
As it happened, I was already working on #99, an album of Guided By Voices/Robert Pollard covers that currently has 17 songs finished. It became clear that #100 would have to be huge.
I made a list of all the ideas I had. “Make the album flow like a half hour of television.” “Write a big list of titles then write lyrics for all of them then record all the songs live.” “Come up with ridiculous ideas and make EPs out of them to be combined into an album.”
I went with #3. I am formally announcing the Hello Whirled “No Victories” series (on its own Bandcamp, details to follow), which will be part of my thesis. I have a list of strange ideas for writing, recording, playing, and producing songs. Each idea gets a 10-minute EP in the series. When the series wraps, the best songs will be sequenced into an album no longer than 80 minutes in length, and released on the Hello Whirled Bandcamp page as release #100. It will also be released on streaming. I also decided to make it part of my thesis, because to put that much work into something like that and not have it be part of this would be an opportunity wasted.
The Damp Socks Ensemble album will still happen. It will still start with the 4 songs from the currently released “Special December Presentation” EP. That’s still happening.
As it were, when I made “Means A Lot” with Mistee Branchek, she wanted to make a lot of songs that sounded like that, so we started a band called Belted Kingfisher. Whatever we release will also be part of this thesis.
The album I made with Mistee and some other people for Hello Whirled, the previously mentioned Hole of Infinity, will not be part of the thesis, because I started it in April.
Oh, and I might squeeze IMMovation into this too. It doesn’t really fit with the other music stuff, but eh.
